A Spiritual Perspective

Quote from my book “Switch On to Your Inner Strength”

This is a good opportunity to attempt to answer the question I posed in Chapter 12 regarding “Where does Edison's information come from during meditation?” I guess none of us really know the answer. With all things being interconnected extending into thought form we can tap Universal Intelligence. You've heard of telepathy no doubt. What about “willing” someone to contact you or that you have been thinking of someone and then out of the blue they contact you. I believe thoughts are things. Indeed the world has often wondered how it can be that simultaneous, independent, new inventions occur at different parts of the world. When Edison, in meditation, was asking for the next step in inventing the light bulb he got his answer not from within him (he didn't know the answer) but from what I believe is Universal Intelligence. This is the power in creativity — to tap Universal Intelligence or The Mind of God.

Now let me take the idea even one step further. And the point I am going to make is made strongly in Father Justin Belitz's book. It is also one of the philosophical underpinnings of the ancient Chinese study of Chi. The concept is this: in order to be happy there comes a point where your pursuit of your life's purpose needs to be merged with the life's purpose that God has assigned to you. To work against God's purpose is to lead to frustration, angst and disharmony. To bring your goals in line with God's goals is the thing that will bring you harmony and inner peace. It is an objective of spiritual meditation. It may well be the most important thing you ever do in your life. This will give you the highest form of fulfilment.

In Justin Belitz's book “Success: Full Living” he observes:

“In the Old Testament, Abraham was told by God to build a nation. Because he got busy doing God's plan, he was able to experience success.”

Even in the New Testament Jesus said, “I came to do the will of my heavenly Father.” He knew what the goal was and spent his life moving towards and achieving that goal.

One recommended way to align our life's purpose with God's purpose is to use meditation, spiritual meditation. It is a way we can set our course in the first place and then it is the way we can continually check that we are “on course”.

Back to the question, “What about your life's journey?” It is so easy to get on a treadmill somewhere along the line in a business or profession and end up, some years later, in a rut. Apparently successful, but nonetheless, a spiritual rut. This need not remain the case and the good news is that the solution lies entirely in your hands, or, more correctly speaking, in your mind. I commend the Peaceful Place methods of relaxation and meditation to you to start on some serious spiritual thinking.

I'll ask the question again: “Where to from here?” As you've read, this book is all about empowering you to direct your own life and use your inner strength. I have a few suggestions to make regarding your onward journey:

  • It's very important for you to use your inner strength in a deliberate manner rather than by accident
  • It's very important to develop a routine of daily meditation
  • It's important to be clear about “what is your life's purpose now” and what goals you need to achieve to fulfil this purpose
  • It's very important that you clearly identify your values and, having done this, to make sure that your values support your goals
  • If in this whole process of meditation you find that there is a conflict between your life's purpose now, your goals and your values, then you must be prepared to change one of these to bring them into alignment. For example, you may have a view of money as “easy come easy go”, or “money is the root of all evil”, and yet your goal may well be to have an expensive waterfront house. Something's got to change!
  • It is important to establish a hierarchy of purpose. It would seem to me that discovering your life's purpose now is at the top of the hierarchy. Goals and values are the ways in which you pursue your purpose. They must all be pointed in the same direction.
